“Meant to be connected.”

When it came to be, it rose through a narrative of connecting the world. Of bringing us closer. Connected.

And whether it was somewhat cute and fun and maybe even more positive than negative when it first emerged, since maybe 2014 - when it became a real problem for the American politics - it has become increasingly clear how deeply dangerous and problematic Facebook and other social networks have become.

As I write this, Facebook is having a colossal impact on politics all around the world. It has become a platform that has been pushing a tremendous amount of right-wing misinformation and racial divisive outrageous messaging and has done it in some pretty pernicious ways. And its continuous impact on global politics is an absolute menace.

And yes, on November the 7th - 2020, we just got over 72 million times YES to Joe. We made it through. But I still find myself thinking about how the spread of misinformation led an entire nation to vote for someone like Trump.

And while Trump is no longer on the White House, we still have a long way to go. The same problem that helped Trump get elected in the first place is still today eroding the social fabric of our culture and continuing to negatively impact society as we know it.

We joined because we wanted to feel more connected.
It is now clear that the narrative they've sold us is not the path we asked for.
We don’t need it this way.

So why are we still here?
